Supporting Adolescents Through Grief and Loss

Irish Hospice Foundation is hosting this online bereavement and loss workshop on Thursday 26 March 2026.
This full-day session will explore the factors that can influence an adolescent while grieving. It will look at how bereavement and loss can affect a young person’s sense of self, relationships and view of life, and will consider the different ways adolescents may respond to loss.
The workshop will examine:
-
the factors that influence how adolescents grieve
-
the impact of different types of loss on adolescents
-
approaches that may help adolescents engage with and process grief
-
programmes and interventions that may be useful when supporting bereaved adolescents
The session combines theory with experiential work and will also allow space for discussion about the challenges that can arise when supporting adolescents through grief.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
-
discuss how adolescents are impacted by bereavement in their ongoing lives
-
identify a range of bereavement-focused strategies for working with this age group
-
discuss social change and its impact on bereaved adolescents
