Mental Health & Family Caring: Supporting the Supporters

Mental Health Family Caring Supporting the Supporters

This co-produced booklet by Mental Health Ireland and Family Carers Ireland is designed to empower family members who are supporting loved ones with mental health challenges. It aims to help carers maintain their own wellbeing while navigating the complex demands of caregiving.

The content is grounded in lived experience and based on a five-week education programme. It offers accessible information on mental health and wellbeing, the principles of family recovery, communication tools, emotional boundaries, and how to engage with Ireland’s mental health services.

Practical worksheets and reflective exercises are included throughout, allowing families to explore their own experiences, identify support needs, and develop personalised strategies for wellbeing and resilience.

This resource is especially relevant for people living in Cavan and Monaghan, as it highlights available services and encourages collaborative approaches between families and local mental health teams. Above all, it reinforces the message that no one should have to care alone.
