This year’s theme, Children Grieve Too, is an important reminder that children feel loss as deeply as adults. With the right support, they can learn to live with their grief in healthy and hopeful ways. The week encourages families, professionals, and communities to recognise the unique experiences of bereaved children and to help them express their emotions safely.
A special focus for 2024 is on the use of books as supportive tools. Stories can offer children and young people language for their feelings, reassurance that they are not alone, and opportunities for meaningful conversations at home or in school. To make this easier, the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network (ICBN) has developed a new Recommended Reading page, allowing users to search for books by author, theme, accessibility needs, and age group.
Families, educators, and community services are invited to explore these resources and to take time this week to acknowledge the experiences of bereaved children across Cavan, Monaghan and beyond.
Further information, along with the recommended reading list, is available on the ICBN website.
