A diverse programme of arts, culture and wellbeing events will take place across Counties Cavan and Monaghan from 6–20 January 2026, offering people opportunities to connect, create and support their mental health during the winter months.
The Winter Wellness schedule has been developed by Cavan Monaghan Connects, in partnership with HSE Cavan Monaghan, Cavan County Council, and Monaghan County Council, bringing together libraries, creative organisations and mental health services to help communities start the new year on a positive note.
January can be a challenging time for many following the busyness of the festive season. The Winter Wellness programme encourages people to slow down, recharge and reconnect through activities they enjoy, while also strengthening community connections.
Emer Mulligan, HSE Connecting for Life Cavan Monaghan, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that taking part in local creative, artistic or cultural activities can be a helpful way to support wellbeing while staying connected to others in the community.
Kevin Curran, Recovery College Co-ordinator with HSE Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Service, explained that a key aim of Winter Wellness is to show that mental health awareness is everyone’s concern. The programme reflects a growing community using creative arts and shared experiences to support people through emotional challenges and recovery, which are part of normal life experiences.
The schedule includes a wide variety of events, from live music and street art to creative workshops, talks, walking activities and community light installations. Together, these events celebrate the simple things that bring enjoyment, hope and connection into everyday life.
The initiative is delivered in partnership with Cavan County Council Library Service, Monaghan County Council Library Service, Creative Cavan, Creative Monaghan, HSE Connecting for Life Cavan Monaghan and the HSE Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Service Recovery College.
Sharon Howe, Creative Cavan Co-ordinator, welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the power of the arts and the role of social engagement and creativity in supporting health and wellbeing. Audrey Wilson, Creative Communities Monaghan Engagement Officer, noted that the programme offers something for everyone during the darker days of January, culminating in a special community light show at Monaghan Peace Campus on 19 January from 5pm.
Cavan Monaghan Connects extends sincere thanks to all the organisations, groups and individuals contributing to Winter Wellness 2026 across both counties.
