Shine, the national organisation supporting people affected by mental illness, has announced the start of new peer support groups across the North East region. These groups are designed to provide confidential, peer-led spaces for connection, understanding and recovery.

The Cavan Peer Support Group for individuals with self-experience will begin on Tuesday 4th November 2025, meeting fortnightly from 7:00–8:30pm.

The Monaghan Peer Support Group, also for those with self-experience, will start on Wednesday 12th November 2025, meeting fortnightly from 7:00–8:30pm.

A new Relatives and Supporters Group will launch in Collon, Co. Meath on Thursday 4th December 2025, meeting monthly on the first Thursday of each month from 7:00–8:30pm. The Collon location was selected for its central accessibility for participants from Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Meath.

These groups are facilitated by Shine and offer a safe environment where participants can share experiences, gain mutual support and explore recovery together. Previous participants have described the groups as “boosting confidence” and “lighting a light ahead” on their recovery journey.

Due to the confidential nature of the meetings, exact venues are not publicly shared. Participants are asked to register in advance with Shine to receive venue details. This helps ensure a secure, supportive environment for all involved.
