Mental Health Ireland is inviting people across Ireland to say Hello and ask How are you? with meaning on Friday, 15 May 2026.

Now in its fifth year, Hello, How Are You? highlights the importance of staying connected, helps tackle loneliness, creates a sense of belonging and encourages early help-seeking through trusted mental health information and signposting.

You do not need to be an expert to have a meaningful conversation. The campaign’s HELLO steps offer a simple way to start:

  • H – Hello: Say hello and ask how are you?
  • E – Engage: Engage with the person
  • L – Listen: Actively listen to them
  • L – Learn: Learn about the person and how they are feeling
  • O – Options: Give them time to talk and explore options

Mental Health Ireland is encouraging communities, schools, workplaces, clubs and organisations to start planning now. There will be Hello, How Are You? events and volunteers across the country on the day, and free resources, toolkits and information are available online, including materials in different languages.

Whether you are planning an event or simply making time for a genuine check-in, it all starts with a simple question: How are you?
