Traveller Women Complete WRAP Mental-Health Programme in Cavan

HSE Traveller Mental Health, together with the Cavan Traveller Primary Health Care Team, ran a dedicated WRAP workshop for Traveller women throughout June and July 2025 at the Conaty Centre, St Patrick’s College, Cavan.

WRAP is an evidence-based, self-directed approach that supports people to recognise triggers, spot early warning signs, and create a personalised daily maintenance plan. Over the course of the programme, participants openly discussed the coping skills and “wellness tools” they rely on during challenging times. The facilitators emphasised that WRAP complements, rather than replaces, professional treatment, empowering individuals to take the lead in their own recovery.

The sessions were delivered by Ita Madden, Coordinator of Mental Health Services for Travellers, and Julie Duke-McDonagh, Mental Health Peer Support Worker for Travellers. Participants included Eileen Maughan, Caroline Gavin, Marie Collins, Lisa Collins, Teresa Mongan, Aisling McDonagh, Mary Mongan and Emily Gavin. Several attendees praised the safe, supportive environment and said they left with renewed confidence in managing their mental health.

Further Traveller-specific WRAP training is planned. Anyone interested can contact Julie Duke on 087 322 3893 or Ita Madden on 087 381 2608 for details.
